New York.- The Mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, and the Executive Director of the Civil Defense of the Dominican Republic, Juan Salas, held a high-level meeting at City Hall, where they finalized the details of the memorandum of understanding that will be signed soon between both parties.
The objective of the agreement is to strengthen cooperation in strategic areas such as risk management, disaster preparedness, and emergency response. As well as the exchange of good practices and technological advances to save lives and prevent risks.
The Consul General of the Dominican Republic, Jesús Vásquez Martínez was a witness and promoter supporting this alliance between the city of New York and the Dominican Republic, which will strengthen the bonds of friendship between both communities.
The initiative arises as a follow-up to the commitment expressed by Mayor Adams during his visit to Santo Domingo on April 13th, following the tragedy at the Jet Set nightclub, where he offered institutional and technical support to the Dominican authorities. In that context, Adams reaffirmed his willingness to collaborate with the Dominican Republic, and stated: “Your house is my house,” reflecting the deep bond between New York and the Dominican community.

For his part, the president of the National Emergency Commission and executive director of Civil Defense, Juan Salas, expressed his satisfaction with the progress made in this high-level meeting, as the signing of the memorandum will allow the initiation of a route of exchange of good practices, collaboration and technological support in favor of risk reduction.

Consul Jesús Vásquez Martínez valued this step towards a strategic alliance as transcendental, highlighting that the memorandum will allow progress in the construction of more solid systems of prevention, knowledge exchange, technical assistance, and effective response to adverse events.
Camille Joseph Varlack, Chief of Staff to the Mayor of New York, Ana Almánzar, advisor on community issues, Jeffrey García, Executive Director of the Mayor's Office of Nightlife, in the Department of Small Business Services, and Yokarina Duarte, Chief of Staff of NYC Emergency Management, also participated in the meeting.
Likewise, Aissata M.B. Camara, Deputy Commissioner for Policy and Strategic Initiatives and Chief of Staff, representatives from the Department of Health and the Department of Buildings of the city and the NYC Transportation Commissioner, Ydanis Rodríguez.
