La Romana.– In an event that brought together dozens of professionals from the construction sector, guild authorities and press representatives, surveyor Oquelis Montero officially announced his candidacy for the presidency of the Dominican College of Engineers, Architects and Surveyors (CODIA) Eastern Regional, an organization that includes the provinces of La Romana, La Altagracia and El Seibo.
The activity was held at the CODIA Regional East headquarters, located on Padre Abreu Avenue, in La Romana, with broad participation from television, radio, and digital media outlets in the region.
Montero presented his union project accompanied by a solid team of professionals and with the backing of former presidents, directors, and members of CODIA, who highlighted his trajectory, experience, and commitment to the strengthening of the institution.
Among the attendees were former regional presidents Rodolfo Chávez, José Gil, Edward González, Danny Morales, Rafael Núñez, Hilda Marte, Dennis Mercedes, Marcos Méndez, Cruz Tavares, Bianca Musseb, William Familia, and César Caraballo, as well as current board members Leticia Mejía, secretary general; Julio Tolentino, treasurer; Piro Ant. Ávila, secretary of minutes; and Laudy de Beras, secretary of education and events.
Representatives from the La Altagracia and El Seibo delegations also participated, including José Luis Sánchez Guerrero, candidate for the presidency of the La Altagracia Delegation; Reyna Miledys Pérez Pérez; Miguel Santana, president of the La Altagracia Delegation; Marlon Laureano; Marcos Rodríguez; Eumidio Volquez, candidate for the presidency of the El Seibo Delegation; Waleska del Rosario, Manuel Alejandro, Laura Tavárez, and Reinaldo Mota, as well as dozens of union leaders who expressed their support for the project.

During the meeting, various members highlighted the human and professional qualities of Oquelis Montero, stating that he meets the conditions to lead an administration focused on unity, transparency, and institutional strengthening.

In his speech, the candidate thanked the support received and presented the main lines of his work plan for the 2026-2027 period, based on the modernization of the guild, administrative transparency, inclusion, the participation of all professional chapters, and the strengthening of the three delegations that make up the Eastern Regional.
Likewise, he announced the members of the slate that will accompany him in his aspirations, highlighting that it is a renewed proposal, made up of professionals from different specialties and with representation from the entire region.
At the conclusion of his speech, Montero answered questions from journalists regarding the main challenges facing the association and his vision for the future of the CODIA Eastern Regional.
The CODIA elections are scheduled to be held during the first week of next August.
Oquelis Montero Profile
Oquelis Montero Calderón is a land surveyor, a graduate of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) in the year 2003. He is a father of four children with land surveyor Reyna Miledys Pérez Pérez.

He currently presides over the Rotary Club of Higüey. In addition, he was a board member of the Union of Entrepreneurs of the La Altagracia Province (UEPAL) and secretary general of the Civil Commission for the Development of the La Altagracia Province (COCDEPAL).
Within CODIA, he has held important responsibilities, including president of the La Altagracia Delegation (2010-2011), secretary general of the Eastern Regional (2017-2018), judge of the Disciplinary Tribunal (2018-2019), president of the Dominican Association of Surveyors in La Altagracia for two terms, and national vice president of that entity.
Currently, he aspires to the presidency of the CODIA Eastern Regional for the 2026-2027 period, with the proposal to promote a more open, participatory, transparent, and committed union to the development of its members and the region.
