Santo Domingo.– The Central American Parliament (PARLACEN) and the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) held a working meeting with the aim of strengthening regional integration through the academic field, by analyzing initiatives aimed at training in Central American Community Law.
The meeting was attended by Héctor Pereyra, dean of the Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences of UASD, and is part of a proposal promoted by congresswoman Esmeralda Mancebo, aimed at promoting greater links between the regional integration process and university education, particularly in the Law and International Relations careers.
On behalf of PARLACEN, deputies Jesús Batista, Vice President of the Board of Directors; Socorro Monegro, secretary; as well as deputies Krimilda Acosta San Miguel, Esmeralda Mancebo, Catalina Olea Salazar and Lidia Margarita Pimentel participated. Also present were deputy Rubén Jiménez Bichara and Whenshy Wilkerson Medina, alternate to the Parliament.
In representation of the UASD, in addition to Dean Pereyra, Engels Villanueva, director of the Institute of Legal and Political Research of that house of higher studies, participated.
During the meeting, academic cooperation lines between both institutions were addressed in general, highlighting the importance of strengthening professional training with a regional vision that contributes to the institutional and democratic development of Central America.
Both parties agreed that the rapprochement between the Central American Parliament and the academy constitutes a strategic opportunity to promote knowledge of the regional integration process and to foster joint initiatives that strengthen the role of institutions in the region.
As a result of the meeting, it was proposed to advance in mechanisms of inter-institutional collaboration that allow to give continuity to the dialogue and to develop future joint academic actions.
