Police arrest “Joni Pie”, accused of killing a farmer during an assault in Santiago

Santiago.- The National Police arrested the Haitian citizen Joni Pie and/or Starlin, alias “Ñato”, 25 years old, the alleged responsible for the homicide of Mr. Eleuterio Toribio Toribio, who was known as “Pingüino”, 64 years old, during an assault inside his residence, located in the municipality of Navarrete, in February of the year 2023. The arrest was carried out by members of the Criminal Investigations Sub-Directorate (DICRIM) in the municipality of Los Alcarrizos, Santo Domingo province, in compliance with arrest warrant No. 01978-2023.

The spokeswoman for the uniformed officers in this city, Fiordaliza Pops Arias, reported that the victim, a farmer by occupation, was found dead inside his residence, located in the 27 de Febrero neighborhood of Navarrete, presenting multiple stab wounds. Popa reports that investigations revealed that the incident occurred during a struggle between the victim and the aggressor, with the apparent purpose of stripping Mr. Toribio of his belongings, including his cell phone. During the course of the investigation, other people who could be linked to the case were also questioned. The detainee will be placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the corresponding legal purposes.
