Santiago.- The president of the Instituto Duartiano, Wilson Gómez, described as unfortunate the position that the Society of Jesus in the Dominican Republic has expressed, which questions the immigration policies promoted by President Luis Abinader, due to the massive repatriations of Haitian foreign migrants in the country and advocates for a humane immigration policy.
“No one has taken up the defense of Haiti like the Dominican Republic and what we receive are systematic attacks, despite our solidarity with the Haitian people,” he said

In that sense, Wilson Gómez deplored that no one recognizes the country and that it only receives attacks with accusations of xenophobia for maintaining a position of defense of national interests. However, he indicated that in all international conclaves the President of the Republic has defended the need to come to the aid of Haiti and that the international community should go to the aid of the neighboring country. According to the Jesuits, the authorities have focused primarily on the repatriations of citizens of Haitian origin. Although they acknowledge that some international reports, such as the one published in Vatican News, have made exaggerated judgments.
