Santo Domingo.- The National Institute for Consumer Protection (Pro Consumidor) and the Specialized Corps for Fuel and Merchandise Trade Control (Ceccom) announced this Sunday that "a broad national operation" of inspection and surveillance will be carried out in commercial establishments, with the aim of preventing the sale of adulterated alcoholic beverages and other products in irregular conditions during Holy Week this year.
The action is part of a joint prevention and control plan that seeks to protect the health of citizens and ensure compliance with the regulations governing the trade of goods in the country, Pro Consumidor reported in a press release. You may be interested in: HOLY WEEK 2025 IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
Mixed inspection brigades will be mobilized in the operation, which will carry out tours in colmados, supermarkets, liquor stores ("liquor stores") and other points of sale of alcoholic beverages, where the origin of the products, their correct labeling, sanitary records, storage conditions and expiration dates will be verified. These actions intensify during periods of high consumer flow and displacement of people, as occurs during Holy Week, when the purchase and consumption of alcoholic beverages significantly increases throughout the country. In addition to these inspections, the two institutions will develop orientation sessions aimed at both merchants and consumers, with the purpose of promoting responsible commercial practices and educating the population on how to identify adulterated or dubious origin beverages. Pro Consumidor and Ceccom recommended to the citizenry to acquire alcoholic beverages only in formal establishments, verify that the bottles are properly sealed, review the labeling and avoid consuming products that present alterations in their color, smell or taste. Pro Consumidor reiterated its call to the population to report "any irregularity that puts the health or rights of consumers at risk", likewise, warned that "businesses that are caught selling adulterated beverages or illegal merchandise are exposed to administrative sanctions, seizure of products and the temporary or permanent closure of the establishment, in accordance with the provisions of current legislation".
