Public Ministry creates Anti-Drug Attorney's Office to reinforce the fight against drug trafficking

Santo Domingo.- The Public Ministry announced the creation of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office against Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs, a new body aimed at strengthening the national strategy for the prosecution of drug trafficking in the Dominican Republic.

The dependency was approved by the Superior Council of the Public Ministry, at the request of the Attorney General Yeni Berenice Reynoso, with the aim of dismantling criminal structures and attacking their sources of financing through the seizure of illicit assets.

According to the institution, Deputy Attorney Sourelly Naihary Jáquez Vialet was appointed as interim head. The Public Ministry also highlighted progress in international legal cooperation, especially in extraditions and coordinated actions with countries such as the United States, the Netherlands, Italy, and Spain. The decision of the Superior Council is based on article 53 of the Organic Law of the Public Ministry (133-11), which authorizes the creation of specialized procurator's offices due to the complexity of cases or institutional priorities. This body is made up of the procurator Reynoso, the deputy procurator Isis Germania de la Cruz Duarte, the court procurator José del Carmen Sepúlveda, the prosecutor Denny Frey Silvestre Zorrilla and the auditor Merlin Mateo Sánchez.
