Santo Domingo – Political leader Rafael Paz issued a strong statement this Thursday regarding what he called a "disgusting smear campaign" on social media against official Leonardo Aguilera, current president of the Refidomsa Board of Directors.
"I want to make a very personal comment. My colleague is not so involved with this, but I can't remain silent. What is happening on social media against Leonardo Aguilera is disgusting. It's a smear campaign that sends a very bad message," said Paz during a radio interview.
The leader, a member of the Fuerza del Pueblo party, called for reflection from those who promote this type of attack, warning that the fight for political positions should not involve "dynamiting the image of the government itself."
"Reflect. Not all methods are used. I am from a different political faction, but I deeply respect Leonardo Aguilera, as the Dominican Republic respects him," Paz affirmed, emphasizing that his words do not have a political background, but an ethical one.
"I just wanted to say that because, sometimes, honor compels. Good morning. We continue," he concluded.
