Rain and stifling heat persist in the Dominican Republic due to a trough and Saharan dust

SANTO DOMINGO. – The weather conditions continue to be marked this Wednesday by the combination of an active trough and the presence of Saharan dust, generating a hot and rainy day in a large part of the country. According to the report from the Dominican Republic's Meteorology Institute (INDOMET), during the early morning hours, showers accompanied by electrical storms have been recorded in provinces such as La Altagracia, El Seibo, La Romana, Hato Mayor, Samaná, Monte Plata, Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez, San Pedro de Macorís, and Greater Santo Domingo. Rainfall will continue in the morning hours and will intensify in the afternoon due to the strengthening of the trough, daytime heating, and the passage of a tropical wave, although the latter will have a limited impact. Moderate to heavy rains with thunderstorms and wind gusts are expected in regions of the center, northeast, and southeast of the country, extending until night. Forecast by demarcations of Greater Santo Domingo:
  • National District: possible showers, thunderstorms, and wind gusts.
  • Santo Domingo North: chance of showers, electrical storms, and wind gusts.
  • Santo Domingo East: scattered showers with thunderstorms are expected.
  • Santo Domingo West: similar conditions with showers and isolated gusts.
Temperatures: will remain high, with lows between 21 °C and 23 °C, and highs ranging between 32 °C and 34 °C, reinforcing the feeling of heat throughout the national territory.
