Dominican-Ukrainian, expressed this Tuesday his solidarity with the people of Ukraine after the assassination of Andriy Parubiy, former president of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) and during the session of the Chamber of Deputies, they observed a minute of silence in honor of the memory of the Ukrainian political leader.
Pérez highlighted that the minute of silence held in the Chamber reflects the Dominican Republic's commitment to solidarity with Ukraine and its democratic institutions, while sending a message of condolences to the family of the political leader and the Ukrainian people.
Parubiy, who presided over the Parliament between 2016 and 2019, was assassinated on Saturday, August 30, 2025, in the city of Lviv, in western Ukraine. According to official reports, a man dressed as a delivery person approached the victim and shot him several times in broad daylight. The attacker fled the scene on an electric bicycle and was later captured.
Ukrainian authorities reported that the main suspect, identified as Mykhailo Stselnikov, 52 years old, was arrested the next day. During his confession, he claimed that he acted out of "personal revenge" due to the death of his son, a Ukrainian soldier. However, the authorities are keeping the investigation open for possible links to Russian intelligence services.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, condemned the crime and called it a “horrifying murder,” assuring that his government will deploy all necessary resources to clarify the facts and ensure justice.
Andriy Parubiy, in addition to his role as Speaker of the Parliament, was a key figure in modern Ukrainian politics. He actively participated in the 2004 Orange Revolution and the 2013-2014 Euromaidan protests, being a staunch advocate of European integration and national sovereignty against Russian influence.
