Santo Domingo Este.- The rains of the last few hours have turned several streets into real rivers in Santo Domingo Este. Sectors such as Los Mameyes, Villa Duarte, Ensanche Isabelita and Maquiteria show sidewalks covered with water, overflowing drains and vehicles trapped in puddles that exceed the height of the tires.
“We are drowning here, they say they'll fix it and they do nothing, everything is full,” expressed Juana Méndez, a resident of Los Mameyes.

The water covers a large part of the roads, forcing drivers to maneuver with extreme caution or even turn back to avoid being stranded. In the internal alleys the situation worsens, houses with water at the entrances and closed shops. “The only thing is to let the water pass, because one can't do anything. They don't collect the garbage and all the filters are clogged,” denounced Araselis Hernández, also a resident of Los Mameyes. The residents claim that each downpour confronts them with the same scenario, with the frustration of seeing their belongings and the mobility of the municipality affected. "This is desperate, we live in fear that a heavy downpour will leave us isolated," commented Juan Gómez.
