In sectors such as Ensanche Isabelita and Simón Bolívar, residents acknowledge that President Luis Abinader’s announcement represents a sign of official interest in the environmental and social problems that have affected them for decades. “We’ve been waiting for that for years… It’s necessary for the community and all sectors like La Zurza, which is the most affected when the river rises,” said Mr. Toribio de la Rosa. The decree establishes that the Executing Unit for the Redevelopment of Neighborhoods and Environments (URBE) will be responsible for coordinating the works, under the supervision of the Ministry of Environment. The plan includes renovating infrastructure, relocating at-risk housing, and ensuring socialization processes with the affected communities.
