Santo Domingo. - Lawyer Eduardo Saint-Hilaire predicted during an intervention in the program Esto No Es Radio, the decision announced today by President Luis Abinader, who confirmed the temporary authorization for the United States to use restricted areas of the San Isidro Air Base and the Las Américas International Airport (AILA) during the official visit of the US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth.
Saint-Hilaire maintained that for weeks he had been warning that the region was entering a scenario of "geopolitical tension", and assured that several diplomatic and military movements in the Caribbean indicated that Washington was preparing special operations related to Venezuela.

According to what he said, his "forecast" was based on the suspension of the Summit of the Americas, the recent deployment of the aircraft carrier USS Gerald Ford in Caribbean waters, and the declaration of groups linked to the government of Nicolás Maduro as "terrorist organizations" by US authorities. In his comment, he also expressed that the visit of the United States Secretary of Defense to the Dominican Republic would have a strategic component, stating, as an opinion, that the country could become a "logistics center" for military operations in the region. President Abinader reported earlier that the authorization granted to the United States corresponds exclusively to usual security and logistics protocols for high-level official visits, a practice applied with different allied countries in similar events. The Dominican government reiterated that military cooperation with the United States is governed by current bilateral agreements and does not imply operational commitments outside the established diplomatic frameworks.
