Santo Domingo.– During the five years of President Luis Abinader’s government, the province of Santo Domingo was the greatest beneficiary of the decentralization of public investment, accumulating a total of 315 high-impact works completed and in execution, in correspondence with its population, economic and electoral weight.
Among the most relevant is the Line 2C of the Santo Domingo Metro, with an extension of 7.3 kilometers and an investment exceeding RD$29,850 million. The work, which will connect Los Alcarrizos with Line 2, will benefit more than one million people and is scheduled to begin operations next February.
Adding to this is the Teleférico de Los Alcarrizos, already inaugurated, with an investment of RD$6,698 million, as well as the expansion of the avenida Ecológica, with a cost of RD$6,322.8 million.
In the judicial area, the inauguration of the Judicial City of Santo Domingo Este stands out, with an investment of RD$4.486 billion, and the ongoing construction of the Palace of Justice of Santo Domingo Oeste, for RD$1.852 billion.
The expansion of the transportation system also includes a new Cable Car from kilometer 9 to 12 of Haina, valued at RD$6,320 million, and strategic road projects such as the Plaza de la Bandera Express Tunnel (RD$6,000 million), the Isabel Aguiar Express Overpass (RD$2,880 million) and the Republic of Colombia road solution (RD$10,000 million).
In terms of health, projects such as the Mario Tolentino Dipp Hospital (RD$2,800 million), the remodeling of the Marcelino Vélez Santana Hospital (RD$765 million) and the Boca Chica Municipal Hospital (RD$362.3 million) were executed.
In the housing sector, the province went from 4,600 to 15,500 inhabited units in the 2020-2025 period, thanks to projects such as Ciudad Juan Bosch, Colinas del Arroyo II, Ciudad Modelo, Hato Nuevo, Mi Vivienda San Luis and Boca Residence, with investments exceeding RD$20,000 million in total.
Other emblematic works include the extension of San Isidro and La Hípica avenues, the San Andrés overpass (USD$51 million), the expansion of the Oriental Aqueduct Salinity Barrier (USD$151 million), the sanitation of 45.5 kilometers of canals with an investment of RD$11,000 million, and the modernization of the Air Force runway in San Isidro (RD$2,800 million).
The province was also the scene of significant educational investments, such as the extension of the UASD in Santo Domingo Este (RD$1,615 million), the construction of the Ivelisse Prats Ramírez Technological Center in Ciudad Juan Bosch and the expansion of the Constitutional Court (RD$890 million).
According to official records, the works in the province of Santo Domingo range from mass transportation and road solutions to health, housing, justice, education, environmental sanitation, and energy, consolidating it as the epicenter of public investment during the five years of Abinader’s administration.
