Madrid, Spain.– The Minister of Public Administration and Executive Director of Pro Pedernales, Sigmund Freund, highlighted the importance of the Dominican Republic's participation in the International Tourism Fair (FITUR 2026), held from January 21 to 23 in Madrid, Spain, emphasizing the union between the public and private sectors as a fundamental pillar of the country's tourism growth.
Freund valued the achievements made during the year 2025 and reaffirmed the Government's commitment to continue promoting tourism development in 2026, as well as attracting investors and visitors to the Caribbean country. You may be interested in: http://Senator Rogelio Genao attributes the positioning of tourism in the DR to the government's good management
"By the end of this year, we will be opening the first hotels of the project, one from the Hyatt chain and another from Iberostar. In addition, we will be concluding the construction of the Cabo Rojo International Airport," he expressed when approached by journalist Wendy Mora. The official added that the incorporation of a private group that will contribute a significant capital investment will be announced soon, with the aim of taking the Pedernales project "to the place it deserves." He also pointed out that to continue growing in tourism, it is essential to guarantee legal and citizen security, as well as to strengthen trust in the country, aspects that —he affirmed— can only be achieved through a solid alliance between a focused Government and the private sector. "The best example that in the Dominican Republic, joint work can be successful is tourism," Freund concluded.
