Santo Domingo.- The National Social Security Council (CNSS) reported that the new Occupational Risk Insurance (SRL) Regulation includes provisions adapted to new employment modalities, including telework, with the objective of guaranteeing greater protection for workers who perform their duties outside of traditional workspaces.
The general manager of the CNSS, Aura Celeste Fernández Rodríguez, explained that the regulation, approved through Decree 287-26, responds to the transformations that the labor market has experienced in recent years and seeks to offer coverage in accordance with new work dynamics.
As indicated, one of the most relevant advances of the regulation is the recognition of work scenarios that were not previously clearly defined, including conditions related to telework and other flexible employment schemes.
Fernández Rodríguez highlighted that the update strengthens the rights of Occupational Risk Insurance affiliates, establishing clearer mechanisms for accessing benefits, claims, and appeal procedures, in addition to improving the procedures for calculating subsidies, indemnities, and pensions derived from work-related accidents or occupational diseases.

The official pointed out that the regulation also reinforces prevention actions through risk management programs and indicators aimed at reducing accidents and promoting safer work environments, both in workplaces and in remote modalities.

Likewise, he explained that the regulation expands insurance coverage by defining more precisely situations linked to work activity, including accidents that occur during the commute to work or on the way back home, as well as other events related to the performance of work duties.
The CNSS assured that the incorporation of telework into the regulatory framework of Occupational Risk Insurance represents an important step to adapt the social protection system to the new realities of employment and ensure that workers have support regardless of where they carry out their work.
With the entry into force of the new regulation, the authorities seek to consolidate a more modern, efficient system focused on the comprehensive protection of Dominican workers.
