Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM), in interdiction operations carried out yesterday, detained a total of 2,053 Haitian nationals who were traveling in an irregular migratory condition through different regions of the country.
The actions of the interdiction agents were carried out in strict compliance with national laws, international protocols, and with a firm commitment to respect the human rights and dignity of all persons involved.Read more: DGM arrests two Dominicans caught transporting undocumented Haitians
The work focused on various strategic and border areas of the Dominican territory. In Greater Santo Domingo, 120 people were arrested; in Santiago de los Caballeros, 59; in La Vega, 132; in Mao/Santiago Rodríguez, 36; in the East Zone, 25; in Azua, 29; in Barahona, 34; in Dajabón, 157; in Elías Piña, 174; in Jimaní, 113; and in Pedernales, 94. Inter-institutional coordination has also been key to these operations. Added to those apprehended are 944 people captured by the National Army, while the Specialized Border Security Corps (CESFRON) arrested 82, and the National Police 54. The Ministry of Defense, the Navy, the Air Force, Ciutran, Digesett and the Public Ministry, among other state security agencies, also participated in the collaboration.Deportations
The DGM also reported that 1,055 Haitian immigrants were repatriated to their country of origin through the main binational exit points of the country. Of these, 382 were deported through the binational border crossing of Dajabón, 174 through Elías Piña, 405 through Jimaní, and 94 through Pedernales. Before deportation, foreigners in an irregular condition go through a biometric and fingerprint identification process, as well as a screening process, as established by Dominican regulations. The returns of undocumented Haitians are carried out under strict national and international humanitarian protocols that ensure respect for their integrity and guarantee fair treatment at all times. The DGM assured that it remains committed to strengthening its operations, promoting responsible, ethical, and transparent migration management. The purpose is to maintain effective migration control that contributes to the security and well-being of the entire Dominican population, without violating the rights of those who transit through our territory.
