New York.- Dominicans in an irregular immigration status and residing in the city of New York have not been pursued by US authorities, and the arrests that have occurred correspond to isolated cases, mostly involving individuals involved in criminal activities, as announced by the Dominican consul in New York, Jesús -Chu- Vásquez Martínez.
“Exceptions are the cases of deportations from New York City… they have looked for criminals or people linked to crime and if they find any undocumented person they take them,” he stated in this regard.
Vásquez Martínez was emphatic that the perception of persecution is false as far as the Big Apple is concerned, but he did not refer to the other states.
Immigration policies have been strengthened as a main focus of President Donald Trump, carrying out mass deportations of undocumented immigrants.

According to current and former federal officials with direct knowledge of the plans, the current administration is planning to deport one million illegal aliens in the United States. Deporting one million immigrants in a year would ostensibly surpass previous statistics, as the highest figure so far was over 400,000 per year, when Barack Obama was president.
