Santo Domingo. - Gender-based violence stained several Dominican families with mourning at the beginning of this week, with at least three femicides recorded in different parts of the country. Young women and even a one-year-old child were victims of atrocious crimes at the hands of their partners or former partners.
The most recent event occurred in Haina, San Cristóbal province, where a young 19-year-old mother and her one-year-old son were murdered, allegedly, by the woman's partner, who then tried to cover up the crime by starting a fire.

The victims were identified as Luisa Molina Lora and her young son, found dead inside the house. The main suspect is Ruddy Rondón Guerrero, 59 years old, with whom the young woman was in a relationship. Also in San Cristóbal, but in the municipality of Cambita, another femicide was reported on Monday morning. María Teresa Espinales, 40 years old, was murdered by her partner, First Lieutenant José Placencio Lara, who was arrested after committing the crime in the community of Muchas Aguas. In Baní, Peravia province, another case shocked the population. A man who had been deported from the United States just two weeks ago shot his ex-partner and her new partner. The double homicide occurred on Saturday in the Los Cayuquitos sector, west zone of the municipality. The victims were Selis Mercedes Sánchez, 45 years old, a teacher at a basic education school, and the taxi driver Luis Marino Caraballo, 62 years old.
