Santo Domingo Este.- Amidst tears, pain, and indignation, family, friends, and neighbors are mourning the remains of Nauriel Misael Medina, a 14-year-old adolescent who died after being brutally attacked with machete blows and blunt force trauma to the head, in an incident that occurred in the Katanga sector, in Los Mina.

During the wake, neighbor María Santana, visibly affected and in tears, assured that the alleged perpetrators of the crime would be two Haitian citizens, who, she said, are already in custody. “That was something very cruel, that child didn’t deserve to die like that. We were told that it was two Haitians and that they are already in prison. What we ask for is justice, that this doesn’t stay like this,” Santana expressed, while breaking down in tears. Another resident of the sector, Ángel Carrasco, also spoke out, calling on the judicial and immigration authorities. “What we want here is justice. It cannot be that a 14-year-old boy loses his life in that way. Migration has to intervene and help in these cases of illegal Haitians who are committing crimes,” said Carrasco. According to versions offered by family members, the attack would have been motivated by jealousy, allegedly linked to the ex-boyfriend of a teenager who was in a relationship with the victim.

Testimonies indicate that Nauriel Misael left his home when he was intercepted by several individuals, who inflicted machete blows and severe blows to the head, injuries that ultimately caused his death. The minor’s body was found around midnight. His father recounted the state in which he found his son. The crime has generated consternation and fear among the residents of Katanga, who demand greater security and a forceful response from the justice system in the face of this event that mourns the entire community.
