Santo Domingo.- Two men of Serbian nationality were arrested at the Punta Cana International Airport, in La Altagracia province, when they intended to travel to Switzerland with 75 packages of cocaine, the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) reported this Tuesday.
A statement from the agency details that, after receiving intelligence reports, anti-narcotics agents, assisted by security agencies stationed at the terminal, reviewed the luggage of the foreigners, detecting through X-ray machines "suspicious images" inside their three suitcases.

By order of the acting prosecutor and in the presence of the two foreigners, aged 63 and 68, the protocol of action was initiated and, after inspecting three suitcases, the 75 packages of alleged cocaine were found. The Public Ministry and the DNCD "have opened an exhaustive investigation to establish criminal responsibilities for other possible individuals involved in the frustrated international drug trafficking operation", the statement specified. According to intelligence reports, these are criminal structures that recruit citizens (mules) of different nationalities to traffic drugs, specifically cocaine, to the United States, Europe, and Canada. Both foreigners will be brought to justice in the coming hours for violation of law 50-88, on drugs and controlled substances.
