Monte Plata. – The Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) received a plot of land of 8,825.48 square meters from the Dominican Agrarian Institute, with the purpose of building a new university extension and an experimental high school in the municipality of Sabana Grande de Boyá, in this province.
The delivery was formalized during an event led by the rector of the Primada de América, maestro Editrudis Beltrán Crisóstomo, who highlighted the importance of this step to expand access to higher education in the region.
"When UASD reaches the communities, a wide universe of opportunities opens up for the benefit of our people," affirmed Beltrán, highlighting that the University currently has no presence in that municipality.
Existing infrastructure will be refurbished
The land has an initial infrastructure, which will be evaluated and adapted by a technical team from the state academy, with a view to enabling the first offices and classrooms in a preliminary phase of the project.
The rector stated that this initiative has a special value for him, due to his family ties with the community. "I did not want to conclude my term without establishing a university extension in this town," he expressed.
He added that "when UASD reaches the communities, a wide universe of opportunities opens up for the benefit of our people," he expressed.
In that order, Beltrán stated that "the transfer of land excites me in a special way because of the connection I have with this town, where close relatives reside, and I did not want to conclude my management without leaving an extension of the University in this locality in operation."
However, the general director of the Dominican Agrarian Institute, Darío Castillo Lugo, and the mayor of Sabana Grande de Boyá, Marcos Antonio Tavárez Fernández, agreed on highlighting the relevance of the project, which will facilitate access to higher education for hundreds of young people from low-income backgrounds in the municipality and surrounding areas.
