SANTO DOMINGO.- Starting October 1, 2025, all applicants for a non-immigrant visa to the United States, including those seeking to renew their visa, must attend a personal interview with a consul, the U.S. Embassy in the country informed.
The measure applies regardless of age, so both under 18 years old and over 79 years old must present themselves.

However, some groups will be exempt, including certain temporary visitors in the B category, temporary agricultural workers H2A, and certain government employees traveling on official mission, the Embassy indicated. Those interested should verify the requirements on the official website of the United States Embassy in Santo Domingo.
The State Department explained that the measure responds to a government order and seeks to strengthen security in the visa processes, as in-person interviews are considered an effective tool for detecting fraud, misrepresentation, and other signs of ineligibility.
The Embassy indicated that the implementation starting October 1st will allow for the necessary adjustments to ensure a more efficient and secure process, reinforcing the mechanisms of migration control and consular supervision.
