During the conference held at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo Higüey campus, the vice president detailed that this region represents 14% of the national Gross Domestic Product, highlighting that this dynamism is based on the trust that investors place in our country, since only in the first quarter of this 2025, the country received 1.329 billion dollars in foreign direct investment. This vision of the future that we are building under the leadership of President Luis Abinader is felt in every corner of the province,” said Peña.
Peña also said that the construction sector in July grew by 3.8%, after having faced difficult times, which confirms that the economy is strengthening. Raquel Peña recalled that in La Altagracia, emergency rooms in different municipalities were renovated and expanded, with six inaugurations that today allow families to receive quality medical care without having to travel long distances. “These works are part of 10 projects throughout the Eastern region, including hospitals and first-class centers, strengthening the public network and bringing tranquility to thousands of homes,” he said, while detailing the first trauma hospital in the region, inaugurated in July in Higüey. In addition, the Government delivered two primary level centers in Higüey, which benefit 1,610 students and add 46 new classrooms, already in operation in the current school year. “We know that education is the key that opens the doors to a better future, we continue to work so that every boy and girl has access to quality education and the opportunity to achieve their dreams,” he added.“A decade ago, the indicators of the Human Development Index placed the Yuma Region (formed by El Seibo, La Romana and La Altagracia) among the areas with the least development in the Dominican Republic, but today that reality is different. Thanks to the joint work between the Government and the citizenry,” said the vice president.
