Abinader justifies loans approved by Congress: “They were already in the budget”

Santo Domingo. – The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, defended the approval of loans for 615 million dollars made in the early hours of last Wednesday by the Chamber of Deputies, assuring that these resources were already contemplated in the General State Budget. During his weekly meeting with the press, the president explained that these are financings from multilateral organizations, whose execution was already planned by the Government.

Those are loans that were in the budget, meaning, it was already planned. I don't know how they used it or how they planned it, but they were already there”, Abinader pointed out.

He also indicated that the loans are taken based on the needs of the State and treasury management. "They are taken as deemed appropriate, including for treasury management," he noted. The Head of State emphasized that it is not about improvised debt, but rather financial operations previously approved by Congress within the framework of the current budget. The loans, which were voted on after 3:00 in the morning in a prolonged session, have generated criticism from opposition sectors and civil society organizations, who question both the amount and the approval process.
