Mexico City.- The Mexican Stock Exchange (
BMV) advanced this Tuesday by 0.49% to close September with a 7.17% increase and 9.51% in the quarter, while its main indicator, the Price and Quotations Index (IPC), rose to 62,915.57 units for a new historical high.
The monthly increase of 7.17% was noted as the highest in 20 years after the Mexican index gained 13.18% in September 2005.
Furthermore, with the positive close in September, the Mexican market accumulated seven months of gains versus two months of losses.
"The capital markets closed the quarter with widespread gains globally due to market optimism about the first interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve," explained to EFE the deputy director of Economic and Financial Analysis at Banco Base, Jesús Anacarsis López.
He added that the IPC of the BMV closed the quarter with a gain of 9.51%, linking three quarters on the rise and was noted as the biggest advance since the fourth quarter of 2023.
Within the Mexican market, he added, the advances of the issuers stood out: Industrias Peñoles (+56.88%), Grupo México (+40.52%), Orbia Advance (+35.5%), Cemex (+26.64%), Grupo Bimbo (+24.24%), Alsea (+19.4%) and Gentera (+18.46%).
Meanwhile, Enrique Covarrubias, director of Economic Analysis at the financial group Actinver, explained that with Tuesday's movement, the Mexican index accumulated a gain in September of 7.17%, 9.51% in the third quarter, and its advance in what has been of 2025 is 27.1%.
"In the month, 23 of the 35 main issuers closed with gains, while the Mexican peso ended September at 18.31 per dollar, after operating in a range of 18.31 to 18.38. In the month, it accumulated an appreciation of 1.8% against the dollar," Covarrubias stated.
During the day, the Mexican peso appreciated 0.27% against the dollar, trading at 18.31 units per greenback, compared to 18.36 the previous day, according to data from the Bank of Mexico.
The volume traded on the market reached 339.4 million shares for an amount of 28.690 million pesos (about 1.567 million dollars).
Of the 692 stocks that traded during the day, 322 ended with their prices up, 344 had losses, and 26 closed unchanged.
The titles with the highest upward variation were from the distributor of chemical products in its series Controladora Alpek (CTALPEK A), with 9.78%, and Alpek (ALPEK A), with 7.46%, and from the real estate developer Dine (DINE B), with 5.86%.
In contrast, the largest downward variations were from the mining company Frisco (MFRISCO A-1), with -4.98%; from the oil and gas explorer Vista Oil & Gas (VISTA A) with -3.25%, and from Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP B) with -2.95%.
