Trump suggests he might raise tariffs on countries that don't accept his plans in Greenland

Washington.- US President Donald Trump said Friday that he might impose a tariff increase on nations that do not accept his plans to take control of Greenland, arguing that the island is central to US interests. "I may put a tariff on countries that don't accept the Greenland thing because we need Greenland for national security. So I may do that," Trump said at a roundtable on rural healthcare. Since his return to the White House in January 2025, the Republican has used tariffs as a political tool against his trading partners, raising rates on imports from Brazil and India by up to 50%, in retaliation for the treatment of former President Jair Bolsonaro and the purchase of Russian crude, respectively.

The White House assured this Thursday that these movements do not affect "in the least" Trump's goal of controlling Greenland, rich in precious metals and rare earths.
