Madrid.– Seven years after representing Spain in Eurovision with Alfred García, the singer Amaia Romero is once again in the news for her forceful statements about her experience in the European music contest.
In 2018, after the phenomenon of the resurgence of Operación Triunfo, Amaia and Alfred were chosen by the Spanish public to attend the festival with the song Tu canción. The proposal, which generated great expectation, ended in a disappointing 23rd place. Amaia herself did not hesitate to describe the result as “a shit”, reflecting her disillusionment with the experience.

In statements that have recently gone viral again, the Navarrese artist described Eurovision as "quite a pose", even comparing it to "The Hunger Games". "More attention is paid to things unrelated to music", she assured when asked about the meaning of her statement. That year, the contest was won by Israel with Netta and her song Toy.
Later, during an interview on the program El Hormiguero, Amaia elaborated on her discomfort, stating that she had no control over the choice of the song with which she went to the festival. “Suddenly we went with a song that we hadn't chosen. We were a bit like puppets,” she confessed, although she clarified that, despite everything, the experience was formative.
These statements reopen the debate on artistic control and media pressure surrounding the Spanish representatives in Eurovision, at a time when the contest is once again at the center of controversy over the televote and Israel's participation.
