Vienna celebrates. With its song Wasted Love, Austria took first place in the 2025 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. Performed by the young Johannes Pietsch, artistically known as JJ, the musical proposal combined a catchy chorus with an unexpected mix of genres —pop, opera, and electronic—, accompanied by a powerful and unusual voice that managed to win over both the jury and the European public.
JJ managed to accumulate 436 points in total, of which 258 came from the professional jury and 178 from the televote. The Austrian's victory broke with the predictions that placed Sweden as the favorite with their Bara Bada Bastu, which finished in fourth position.

Israel's performance, marked by strong controversy due to the situation in Gaza, achieved second place with 357 points (297 from the public and just 60 from the jury). Political tension surrounded the Israeli participation from weeks before the contest.
Spain, between music and controversy
In contrast, Spain experienced one of its most difficult nights in Eurovision. The singer Melody, who represented the country with a vibrant staging and the ambitious choreography of Mónica Peña and Álex Bullón, only managed to get 37 points —10 from the public and 27 from the professional jury—, finishing in 24th place out of 26.
The result has been interpreted by many as a direct consequence of the conflict between RTVE and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), after the Spanish commentators mentioned the humanitarian situation in Gaza in the semi-final. Despite the formal warning received from the organization, RTVE issued a caption at the beginning of the retransmission with the message: “Faced with human rights, silence is not an option. Peace and Justice for Palestine.”
From the UGT union, they described the EBU's warning as "shameful", while part of the audience responded by chanting "brave" during the performance of the Spanish representative.
Once again, Spain fails to touch victory, which it hasn't achieved since 1969. Meanwhile, there's the consolation of remembering recent moments like Chanel's in 2022, when with SloMo she reached a historic third position and 459 points.
