Rubby Pérez Infinito: a borderless tribute to the highest voice of merengue at the National Theater

The show will bring together 27 national and international artists in memory of the merengue singer and the victims of the collapse at the Jet Set nightclub.

Santo Domingo.Rubby Pérez Infinito” is the name of the artistic gala with which a posthumous tribute will be paid to the outstanding merengue singer Rubby Pérez and to the victims of the tragedy that occurred on April 8th at the Jet Set nightclub. The show will be held on July 11th, at 8:30 PM, in the Carlos Piantini hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theater, with the participation of renowned national and international artists. The details of the event were offered during a press conference held on Monday, June 16th at the Hotel Catalonia, led by the production team consisting of Aidita Selman, Eliezer Pérez, as well as guest artists.

The artistic proposal features the musical production and direction of maestro Manuel Tejada and the television production of Alberto Zayas.

The protagonists

During the press conference, the artists who have confirmed their participation in this tribute concert were announced. Figures such as Milly Quezada, Olga Tañón (Puerto Rico), Ramón Orlando, Sergio Vargas, Miriam Cruz, Maridalia Hernández, Alex Bueno, Bonny Cepeda, Amaury Gutiérrez (Cuba) and Frank Ceara will gather on stage. The list is completed by Los Hermanos Rosario, Eddy Herrera, Toño Rosario, Carlos Alfredo Fatule, Jandy Ventura, Joseph Fonseca (Puerto Rico), Martha Heredia, Michel “El Buenón”, Pavel Núñez and José Peña Suazo. Also, Dominican trumpeter based in the United States Rodhen Santos, Ana Beatriz Pérez, Joselito Trinidad, Jorge Gómez (Honduras), Laura Taveras Pérez will have special participations.

The concept

Aidita Selman, artistic producer of the event, explained that it is the official gala concert in homage to Rubby Pérez, who died while entertaining a party at the Jet Set nightclub, when the roof of the establishment collapsed. In that tragedy, 236 people lost their lives and more than 180 were injured. During the concert, the guest artists will perform Rubby Pérez's most emblematic repertoire, accompanied by an orchestra of 36 musicians under the direction of maestro Manuel Tejada. The initiative has been organized by the artist's brothers as a way to pay tribute to one of the most representative voices of Dominican merengue. Executive producer Eliezer Pérez, on behalf of the family, thanked all the artists who will participate in the gala for their solidarity. "Within the pain that overwhelms us for the irreparable loss of our Rubby, we want to express our deep gratitude for the supportive backing we have received from each of the artists who will participate in Rubby Pérez Infinito, as well as their work teams," he expressed.

The musical legacy

The concert will cover Rubby Pérez's 50-year musical career, featuring emblematic songs such as Volveré, Enamorado de ella, Dame veneno, Hazme olvidarla and Buscando tus besos, which marked his legacy in Dominican popular music. With a narrative and emotional approach, under the stage direction of Aidita Selman, the gala promises to be an emotional encounter with the artist's musical history.

Large-scale production


Rubby Pérez Infinito will be a large-scale gala, with the participation of 26 performers, an orchestra of 36 musicians conducted by maestro Manuel Tejada, and 10 dancers. In total, more than 70 artists will be on stage to pay tribute to the highest voice of merengue, on a night that promises to be historic for Dominican popular music.
