Sergio George received the Music Industry Icon recognition during the 2026 Premios Tu Música Urbano Mix, held at the Coca-Cola Music Hall in the T-Mobile District in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The award, presented by Juan Vélez, highlighted the career of one of the most important producers, composers, and visionaries in Latin music, whose work has marked generations and has been key in the global expansion of salsa and tropical music.

Upon receiving the distinction, Sergio George shared a few words of gratitude to God and highlighted the profound meaning of receiving this recognition in Puerto Rico, the land of his roots. Over more than four decades, George has been the architect of some of the most important moments in contemporary Latin music. The night also featured a special appearance by Sergio George during Carlos Vives’ performance with Grupo Niche, in an edition that brought together great names in Latin music and celebrated the strength of its different generations. This recognition comes at one of the busiest times for Sergio George. Just days earlier, the producer celebrated his 65th birthday with “¡ATACA SERGIO!” at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, a historic show that brought together legends and new voices of salsa and Latin music, including Oscar D’León, La India, Andy Montañez, Luis Enrique, Huey Dunbar, Anthony Ramos, Guaynaa, Willy García, Servando y Florentino, among others.
