São Paulo.- Eleven people died when the bus they were traveling in collided head-on with a large truck on a road in the municipality of Lucas do Rio Verde, in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso, reported the company Nova Rota do Oeste, the concessionaire in charge of the section.
The accident occurred on the BR-163 national highway, one of the most extensive roads in Brazil that connects practically the entire country and is widely used for transportation in the agribusiness industry.
Eleven other people, including the truck driver, were taken in serious condition by rescue teams to health units, in addition 26 passengers were treated in moderate condition and another eight had minor injuries.
The company in charge of this section of the route reported that investigations are ongoing but, according to initial information, the bus from the company
Rio Novo, which was heading to the municipality of Sinop, collided head-on with a Volvo truck carrying cotton seeds.
Traffic on this section was already released in the early hours of this Saturday morning, once the cleaning work and the rescue of the victims were completed.
