Austin.- One migrant died and seven others were injured in El Paso (Texas) after being abandoned by human traffickers (known as 'coyotes') in a drainage during a storm.
This was reported by the area's Border Patrol chief, Walter Slosar, to local media on Tuesday night.
The identity or nationality of the victims is still unknown. The deceased person was found without vital signs by the authorities and four others have already been transferred to a nearby hospital, according to official sources.

In statements to the media, Slosar assured that "criminal groups" have used the "cruel and dangerous tactic" of crossing migrants through storm drains "for years," "causing injuries and deaths." The El Paso Fire Department received an emergency call around 3:30 a.m. (local time) reporting the incident and responded to what they called a "multiple-victim incident."
