Madrid.- About 130,000 people, according to the Government Delegation in Madrid, took to the streets of the Spanish capital to greet the pope on his first tour of the city, between the Royal Palace and the Apostolic Nunciature, a journey he made partially in the popemobile.
The pontiff landed this Saturday morning in Madrid to begin his apostolic journey to Spain and, after the welcome ceremony at the Royal Palace, where he was received with military honors by the royal family, he left in the popemobile while the bells of the Almudena Cathedral, located in front of the palace, rang out.
In the first part of the route, Leo XIV crossed the Plaza de España and other streets of the city until reaching the central Plaza de Colón, where he got into a closed car to continue his journey to the apostolic nunciature, located in the northern part of the city.

During the tour, with hardly any rest, the pope greeted and at many moments gave his blessing to the thousands of citizens gathered.
After lunch, the pontiff will continue with his agenda, which includes a visit to a center for the homeless managed by Caritas in the Carabanchel neighborhood, in the south of the capital.

Afterwards, he will hold a meeting with the youth at a vigil in the Plaza de Lima, on the Castellana, Madrid’s main artery, which is expected to be massive and feature musical performances, where the leader of the Catholic Church will also arrive in the popemobile.
For one kilometer, the gathered crowd will be able to see Leo XIV again before he responds to the concerns raised by the young people and celebrates the aforementioned vigil from a stage set at a height of 4.5 meters.
