Caracas.- At least two people were injured this Wednesday when an aircraft crashed shortly after taking off from the Simón Bolívar International Airport of Maiquetía, Venezuela's main airport, reported the National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC), without specifying how many passengers were on board the plane.
In a brief Instagram post, the institution noted that the two survivors "immediately received medical attention" and are "in stable condition."

The accident occurred at 12:52 local time (16:52 GMT) on September 24th for reasons still unknown, so the INAC announced the activation of an "Accident Investigation Board", in order, it said, to "find out the facts that generated" the crash of the 'Learjet 55' aircraft, with Venezuelan registration YV-3440. The INAC added that search and rescue operations are being carried out at the airport, located in the coastal state of La Guaira (north), near Caracas. According to the flight tracker FlightAware, the aircraft YV-3440 was this Wednesday morning "near (the town of) Charallave", in Miranda state (north, also near Caracas), from where it flew to Maiquetía airport. FlightAware also points out that, in the last two weeks, the aircraft flew on a couple of occasions to Cuba from Venezuela and then to Panama from the island country. Last July, seven people, including the co-pilot, died and three others were injured in the accident of an aircraft of the Bolivarian Military Aviation of Venezuela that occurred in Amazonas state (south, bordering Brazil and Colombia), according to what the head of Defense, Vladimir Padrino, reported at the time. That plane was transporting members of the Yanomami indigenous community to a town in the municipality of Alto Orinoco and was going to return with material and equipment from the National Electoral Council (CNE), as part of the operation for the municipal elections held that month.
