Bangkok.- The women's party of Philippines (Gabriela) has asked Parliament to investigate the alleged hiring of a team in the Asian country to clean up the internet image of the deceased American pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after his conviction in 2008 as a sex offender.
The feminist formation, which published on Facebook part of the document in which it calls for the start of legislative investigations, is based on documents recently released by the United States Department of Justice, which show Epstein's connections with several countries and personalities.

"A recent report indicates that the email exchanges from the Epstein Archives show that Epstein and his associates hired a team based in the Philippines to clean up his image," says the text, presented before the Public Information Committee and the Committee on Women and Gender Equality.
The request, supported by at least three congressmen from left-wing formations, highlights the need to "determine the scope of Epstein's network within the Philippines and identify any local individual or entity that may have aided or benefited from his operations". Likewise, it asks to "evaluate the vulnerabilities that allowed the Philippines (global epicenter of child pornography on the web) to be used as an operational center for clearing the name of a sex offender". These alleged links, the plaintiffs consider, are "particularly alarming" in the case of the Philippines due to its vulnerability to crimes related to trafficking and the use of digital technologies to abuse or exploit minors. The petition recalls that Epstein "was involved in an extensive transnational network allegedly involved in the sexual exploitation of minors" and warns that this type of activity "often relies on the same digital ecosystems" that the Philippines has been fighting for years to counter child pornography. The recent revelations from the U.S. Department of Justice have caused political unrest in countries like the United Kingdom, while internet users are encouraging the debate on social media by spreading some of the thousands of photographs, videos, and emails collected by the authorities in the investigations. Despite the fact that the files prove Epstein's trafficking of minors and have revealed dozens of links between the pedophile and personalities around the world, not all mentions of individuals in these documents account for criminal activities or sexual offenses.
