San Juan.- The
Puerto Rico Department of Justice filed charges this Friday against
Kalel Jorell Martínez, 38 years old, in the Investigations Room of the San Juan Judicial Center, for the murder of the American tourist
Kevin Mares, which occurred on August 10 in La Perla, in Old San Juan.
According to the authorities, the events occurred around 4:00 in the morning (8:00 GMT) when Mares, a
25-year-old American tourist who was in Puerto Rico to attend the Bad Bunny concert, was with some friends in the
La Perla neighborhood.
Martínez, without a license to carry the weapon, due to a dispute
shot and wounded two people and mortally hit Mares, who had no relation to the altercation.
Global Bail of $800,000
Prosecutor Melba López filed an indictment that includes violations of Article 93 of the Penal Code of Puerto Rico for
first-degree murder, as well as charges for endangering public safety by firing a firearm. In addition, she is charged with two counts under the Weapons Law of Puerto Rico: possession and carrying of a weapon without a license, and for firing or pointing a firearm.

Judge Rocío Alonso found probable cause against the defendant for the four charges against him and imposed a
global bail of $800,000.
The preliminary hearing was scheduled for August 28, 2025, in room 605 of the San Juan Court.
