Cúcuta (Colombia).- The Government of Colombia convened a meeting of foreign ministers of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) to establish a position on the military attack by the United States on Venezuela in which President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured. The director of the Administrative Department of the Presidency of the Republic (Dapre), Angie Rodríguez, said in a press conference that the country summoned the foreign ministers of CELAC to articulate a regional position regarding the US attack that ended with the detention of Maduro, although she did not specify the date of the meeting. “Let’s remember that the president of the republic (Gustavo Petro) is the pro tempore president (of CELAC),” said the high official in Cúcuta, a Colombian city that has the main border crossing with Venezuela, where the Government installed a unified command post (PMU) in the face of the United States’ attack on the neighboring country. Hours earlier, the Brazilian Government indicated that it was evaluating the possibility of holding this CELAC meeting on Sunday and that the ministerial meeting by videoconference is being planned for 12:00 local time in Bogota (17:00 GMT), but that confirmation will depend on the presidency of the organization, in the hands of Colombia, which did not give further details in this regard. The President of the United States, Donald Trump, confirmed this Saturday that his country carried out “successfully a large-scale attack” on Venezuelan soil and that Maduro and Flores were “captured and taken out of the country”.
