Bogotá.- The Colombian government rejected "categorically and emphatically" Saturday's attack against Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, of the Uribista Democratic Center party, which it described as "an attack not only against the senator's personal integrity, but also against democracy and freedom of thought".
In a statement, the Executive reiterated its commitment to the protection of all political leaders and called to "reject any form of political violence" through dialogue and legality."Democracy and peace in Colombia must prevail. We hope that justice is served and the safety of all political leaders and citizens is guaranteed," expressed the Democratic Center, the party founded by former President Álvaro Uribe (2002-2010), after the event.Uribe Turbay, 39 years old, received several gunshot wounds and was taken, seriously injured, to a clinic in the Colombian capital.
