Guayaquil (Ecuador).- One of those convicted in Ecuador for the Odebrecht case paid $1.4 million to the State, corresponding to the reparation set by the judges against him, according to what was reported this Tuesday by the Procurator's Office (Attorney General's Office).
"The Attorney General's Office reports that it has achieved the full restitution of the reparation imposed on one of those sentenced in the bribery scheme of the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht", the institution stated in a statement.

This is one of the eight people who were convicted in the Andean country for the crime of illicit association in 2017, among whom is former Correista Vice President Jorge Glas, who is also serving prison time for other corruption crimes in Ecuador's maximum security prison, after being arrested last year at the Mexican Embassy in Quito after receiving asylum as a "political persecutee".
The resources, which amount to $1,473,524.30, were deposited "directly into the account of the Attorney General's Office and are already duly cashed and transferred to the Single Account of the National Treasury, complying with the legal obligation to return public funds," added the institution.
In December 2016, the United States Department of Justice revealed that Odebrecht paid $788 million in bribes in twelve Latin American and African countries.
In the case of Ecuador, the report indicated that between 2007 and 2016 the Brazilian construction company paid bribes worth 35.5 million dollars to "government officials", which supposedly generated profits of more than 116 million dollars.
