Cubans are involved "on their own" in the war in Ukraine, admits the Cuban Government

Havana.- The Cuban government reiterated this Saturday that it "does not participate" in the war between Ukraine and Russia, although it acknowledged that there are nationals recruited through organizations unrelated to the Caribbean state or participate "on their own."

"The Cuban government categorically reiterates that Cuba is not part of the armed conflict in Ukraine, nor does it participate with military personnel there, or in any other country," stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Caribbean country (Minrex). The Minrex statement added that "Cubans participating in both sides of the armed confrontation have been recruited through organizations that are not based" in Cuba, "nor have any link with the Cuban government." The Government assured that it also has no information about the Cubans who "on their own have participated or are participating in the military forces of both sides in the war confrontation."

Cuba's Rejection of the Link that the US Attributes to it in the War in Ukraine

Cuba denounced four days ago that the U.S. "pressures" other countries not to vote in favor of the resolution it presents annually at the UN against Washington's sanctions.

Although the island's chancellor, Bruno Rodríguez, did not specifically mention the reason for his statements, the Reuters agency published, based on an internal cable from the State Department to which it had access, that Washington's main argument is that Cuba "actively" supports Russia in the invasion of Ukraine, "with up to 5,000 Cubans fighting alongside Moscow's forces".
