Caracas,.- Mariana González, the daughter of the opposition leader of Venezuela Edmundo González Urrutia, confirmed this Wednesday that her husband, Rafael Tudares, was sentenced to 30 years in prison after, she said, a "single and unique" trial hearing held last Friday.

"The trial against Rafael would have been finalized in a single and unique hearing, on Friday, November 28, 2025, which would have lasted more than 12 hours," González stated in a statement published on X.

In addition, he said that the sentence would have been communicated to Tudares last Monday via telematic means. "The authorities have confirmed to me that neither I nor my lawyer can access the case file, nor know the number of that file in the trial phase, as they have in fact prevented us from doing since September of this year," added González. She pointed out that in 10 months of the process they have never been allowed to review the procedural records of the case nor obtain a copy of the file against her husband. "I have been told once again that the file is confidential due to the 'nature of the case,' which represents a serious violation of the judicial rights and guarantees that Rafael has, and that I have as his wife and mother of our two children," she pointed out. Mariana González indicated that her husband was convicted of conspiracy, in alleged association with a person who, she reiterated, Tudares does not know. "In short, Rafael was associated with a person he does not know, he was attributed with acts he has not carried out and crimes he has in no way committed," he maintained. He also denounced that during this time he was not allowed to appoint trusted lawyers and, he said, the State assigned him a public defender from whom he has not obtained "more information than that transmitted so far" through press releases. Tudares was arrested on January 7 - three days before the inauguration of Nicolás Maduro for a third consecutive six-year term - when human rights defender Carlos Correa - already released - and former opposition presidential candidate Enrique Márquez were also arrested. On several occasions, Mariana González has reported that she has not been able to have direct or indirect communication with her husband.
