Earthquake in Peru leaves six dead and more than 30 injured in the Junín region

Lima, Peru.– At least six people lost their lives and more than 30 were injured following a 5.1 magnitude earthquake recorded on Saturday night in the province of Chupaca, in the Junín region, located in the central zone of Peru.

The seismic movement was followed by a magnitude 3.7 aftershock, which also caused concern among residents of the affected area.

Authorities reported that emergency teams remain deployed to assess the damage caused by the phenomenon and provide assistance to the affected families.

The earthquake caused damage in different areas of the province, while relief agencies continue with response efforts and the assessment of potential new damage.
