Port-au-Prince.- The Haitian National Police (PNH) reported this Tuesday that it is executing 'Operation Non-Stop' in order to eradicate gangs, unblock the main roads and restore the authority of the State with the support of the Gang Repression Force (FRG). The operation was announced by the PNH on its Facebook account, which offers some details of a meeting headed by its general director, André Jonas Vladimir Paraison, members of the institution's high command and the inspector general of the FRG, the Kenyan Godfrey Otunge.

Vladimir Paraison highlighted in the document the ongoing operations and emphasized the "significant progress" achieved thanks to the police interventions carried out in several sensitive areas, particularly in Croix-Des-Bouquets and Tabarre, north of Port-au-Prince, as well as in the center of the capital. "Firm instructions have been given to the different people in charge to do everything possible to achieve the expected results", said the police director. For his part, Otunge reaffirmed the "determination" of his troops to support the Haitian law enforcement forces in their fight against the terrorist gangs that have been sowing terror in the country since at least 2018. For at least five years, the authorities have repeatedly promised to unblock the roads connecting Port-au-Prince with the interior, but this never happened. These roads are under the control of powerful armed gangs that set up toll booths and force users to pay exorbitant sums to be able to circulate. This situation has quadrupled or even quintupled the price of intercity public transport, but also the price of goods and essential products, which has increased food insecurity in the country. Since the assassination of President Jovenel Moise in July 2021, the actions of the gangs that control 90% of the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince increased to serious levels. Last Saturday, the Haitian Presidential Transition Council (CPT) stepped down and handed over the command of the Executive Branch to Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé. The CPT concluded its mandate without holding general elections to elect the authorities that should have taken over on February 7th in the country, as established by part of the responsibilities of the organization, and now it is planned that the elections will be held next August. Haiti is experiencing a severe political and social crisis, and according to the United Nations office in the country, almost 6,000 people died and another 2,708 were injured in Haiti in 2025 due to gang violence and operations by security forces to combat it.
