Rome.- Italy denounced this Monday the expulsion by Russia of its military attaché in Moscow and one of his collaborators, describing it as an “evident act of retaliation” following a recent espionage case in Rome.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has reported on his social media that the Russian Federation has expelled the Italian military attaché in Moscow and one of his collaborators from its territory “without cause,” although without specifying their identities.

“This is an obvious act of retaliation for Italy’s expulsion of two Russian military attachés, who were indeed caught ‘in flagrante’ while carrying out espionage activities to the detriment of our national security,” he accused.
On July 9th, the Italian government expelled two members of the Russian embassy, accusing them of carrying out espionage activities.

That same week, an investigation by the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office had led to the arrest of two Italians, former agents of the Internal Information and Security Agency (AISI), accusing them of passing secret data to the Russians in exchange for money.
