When will the defensive mission begin?
The French leader stated that the mission to reopen the Strait of Hormuz should be carried out with "
European and non-European countries" and said that it would be carried out "once the most critical phase of the conflict was over", although he did not provide further details.
Macron also spoke of "escorting" several types of
vessels so that "gas and oil" can transit through Hormuz again.
Mobilization of more countries
The President of France also announced that
eight frigates will be deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean, two amphibious helicopter carriers and a French aircraft carrier, which will allow "to attract and mobilize" other European countries.
Macron detailed that France will provide two frigates to ensure "freedom of navigation and security" in the
Eastern Mediterranean and the Red Sea.
"Our goal is, with a strictly defensive position, to be close to all countries that are attacked by Iran's response, to ensure our credibility and to contribute to regional de-escalation," he indicated.
