The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, urged this Thursday his US counterpart, Donald Trump, not to be fooled by false narratives about migration, such as the one that supports the decree issued the day before that significantly restricts the entry of Venezuelans to the US.
"President Donald Trump [...] I send you a message: do not let yourself be poisoned anymore against Venezuela, they poison you every day with lies. Yesterday [Wednesday] they released a decree lying that Venezuela does not accept migrants. If we are going to look for them with our planes, how is it that we do not accept them, President Donald Trump? I speak to you face to face so that the message reaches you, because there they are deceiving you," declared the president in a public act.You may be interested in: Maduro evaluates US tariffs and affirms that Venezuela will overcome any "disturbance"
Maduro asserted that, as apparently would have occurred during his first term, Trump would be being "deceived" about the position of the Venezuelan authorities towards their nationals residing abroad and about the behavior of this group of people in US territory.
"I stand in defense of the dignity, honor, and decency of the brave people of Venezuela and the Venezuelan migration in the U.S. We are good people. Enough with smear campaigns, enough with lies," he concluded.
Previously, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry issued a statement of rejection of the measure adopted by the State Department, considering that it restricts the issuance and validity of visas "without any justification and with evident political purposes and intimidation".
Likewise, in the text, Venezuelan authorities directly targeted Secretary of State Marco Rubio, whom they characterized as "an official marked by his known hatred towards the Venezuelan people".
