Man beat his son to death and threw him in a ditch in Uruguay

Jonathan Correa, a 15-year-old teenager, was beaten to death by his father and then appeared on March 6th in a ditch in the Flor de Maroñas area, southeast of Montevideo. A case that, since then, has shocked Uruguay. "It's appalling, terrible"reacted this Thursday the Uruguayan president, Yamandú Orsi, when asked by local media. "The death itself of a child breaks our hearts, in that way as well, a violent death," he stated.

He later admitted the authorities' mistakes. "How we from the State couldn't solve it in time, how we couldn't prevent it (…) evidently here is being investigated by different State agencies to see what the errors were or what the omission was", he added. "There are mechanisms and we often fail, the people who are in charge, but of course, it happens. Hopefully we find ways to make everything more agile and it must exist," said Orsi.

The Handbook

The local media Montevideo Portal revealed that there were up to 14 complaints against Correa's parents. Police records indicate that the minor received beatings from the age of 2. Now the Prosecutor's Office and the Montevideo Police are investigating the case, especially because in 2025 the Public Ministry ordered the Institute for Children and Adolescents of Uruguay (INAU) to address the situation, but it never did. Meanwhile, Justice ordered preventive detention for 180 days for Correa's father, while the investigation into the mother's role progresses. For their part, two cousins and the adolescent's sister, aged 9, were placed in the care of INAU, according to reported Subrayado.
