The man was sentenced in the First Instance Court of San Juan for the fatal stabbing of a man and the attempted murder of a woman during an incident that occurred on December 12, 2008. The day of his sentencing, he escaped while being transferred to the court and fled to the Dominican Republic. In 2016, the Violent Criminal Task Force of the U.S. Marshals Service in Puerto Rico assumed responsibility for the case and, in close coordination with the Dominican authorities, located and arrested Cedeño Amparo. Court records reveal that, prior to his conviction, Cedeño Amparo had fled justice after being released on a $1.5 million bail.
