Washington.- The Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner, María Corina Machado, stated this Sunday from the United States that she will return to Venezuela «within a few weeks» with the aim of «guaranteeing an orderly, sustainable and unstoppable transition to democracy».
In a video message broadcast through social media, Machado assured that he wants to achieve a “great national agreement” to achieve the governability of the country and prepare for “a new and gigantic electoral victory.”
“For all this I am going to return to Venezuela in a few weeks. I want to do it as hundreds and thousands of Venezuelan exiles around the world also want to,” he said.

Machado denounced that the current Venezuelan Government «are the same ones who have tortured and persecuted. Imprisoned, disappeared, murdered, expropriated and lied».
In addition, he pointed out that during his stay in the United States he has held many meetings, including with the president, Donald Trump; Secretary of State, Marco Rubio; 17 senators and 27 congressmen to whom he has conveyed “the enormous potential” that a “democratic Venezuela” will have.

María Corina Machado left Venezuela last December to receive the Nobel Peace Prize medal in Norway after spending a year in hiding to avoid being arrested by Chavismo.
The situation in Venezuela
In January, after the United States’ attack on Venezuela in which they deposed and captured Nicolás Maduro, the opposition leader moved to Washington and, since then, has repeated her desire to be able to return to her country as soon as possible.
Trump, for his part, has forged a good relationship with the government of the interim president,
Delcy Rodríguez, who was Maduro’s vice president, because he claims that she is complying with all his demands, including the opening of the Venezuelan oil sector for American companies.
The last presidential elections held in Venezuela were on July 28, 2024, when the electoral authority controlled by Chavismo proclaimed Maduro’s victory for a third term, despite the opposition denouncing fraud and claiming a wide victory for candidate Edmundo González Urrutia, backed by Machado.
